Pastoral Vision, Mission and Thrust of the Diocese of Ilagan
We profess our faith in Jesus Christ and our fellowship in the Spirit that we may possess to the fullest the life of the Father. Having reflected on our inadequacies in living this faith, fellowship and life and being confronted with the pervasive situation of poverty, injustice and powerlessness that threatens and contradicts our Christian life, we hereby set our vision, mission and thrust as a Diocese.
Vision
We envision ourselves as...
a Community of Disciples
imbued with committed faith,
marked by a life of communion,
participation and mission,
constantly formed by the Holy Trinity;
a Church of the Poor
embracing evangelical poverty,
possessed with a love of preference for the poor,
in solidarity with all in the struggle
for human dignity and rights,
and acknowledging the power of the poor to evangelize;
a Transformed People
commited to the liberation
and transformation of society
towards being a nation
that is Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Maka-Bayan,
and Maka-kalikasan.
Mission
And so we commit ourselves...
...to carry out a renewed integral evangelization,
by announcing the Gospel as a message of
Salvation and Liberation;
...to transform our society by proclaiming God’s
Kingdom of justice, truth, freedom and love;
...to form basic ecclesial communities as the
concrete way of being Church today;
...to help the laity, especially the youth and the family,
exercise their power and mission;
...to witness to the Gospel in our concrete life.
Thrust
Hence our basic Diocesan Pastoral Thrust is...
The building of Basic Ecclesial Communities for
liberation towards total human development
through integral evangelization.
We invoke the aid of the Blessed Mother,
the first to be evangelized, the first to evangelize.
We implore the patronage of St. Ferdinand who was
able to integrate life and faith and subject
his rule to the sovereign Reign of God.
